Hublot Big Bang Meca-10 replica watch features a skeletonized manufacture movement in a large case measuring 45 mm x 57 mm x 15.8 mm. The collection currently consists of versions made in titanium, King Gold, Full Magic gold, or ceramic, all of which have a black composite resin lower bezel and case flanks.

Driving the hours, minutes, small seconds, and dual power reserve indicators are Hublot’s 3Hz caliber HUB1201, which is made in-house and features a massive 10-day power reserve that needs to be wound by hand.

For this article, we photographed the Big Bang Meca-10 Titanium (Ref. 414.NI.1123.RX) and the Meca-10 Full Magic Gold (Ref. 414.MX.1138.RX).

The titanium version is lighter on the wrist, and on the pocket but the proprietary gold model has some unique elements that make a compelling argument in favor of a precious metal, even if you’re the type who always prefers steel or titanium.

Full Magic Gold is marked as 18K gold but unlike others alloyed golds, which are typically 75% pure gold mixed with 25% of other alloys such as platinum, nickel, copper – Magic Gold’s 25% is made of ceramic boron carbide powder. The result: a scratch-resistant gold that is both certified as 18K by the Central Office for Precious Metals Control, and has a hardness rating of about 1,000 Vickers. For comparison, typically 18k gold of any color is 400 Vickers and most steel used in watches is 600 Vickers. Magic Gold is completely scratchproof, and it can only be scratched by a diamond.

Raw Magic Gold is yet to be machined and, because it is so hard, it can only be shaped by diamond-tipped tools, laser, and ultrasonic machining. In fact, to place the “18K” hallmark on the caseback, it must be done with a laser etching machine as traditional methods do not work.

One of the other key, and rarely mentioned, selling points of Magic Gold, is that it is extremely light for 18K gold. At 138 grams it weighs significantly less than a gold case of this size would normally be. Part of this is due to that fact that the bezel and case flanks are made from a lightweight resin material, and because the inner case is titanium, but still, it’s insanely light for 18K gold. The titanium version is only 14 grams lighter at 124 grams. For reference, a King Gold case, which does not have any ceramic mixed in, weighs a little over 170 grams. Normally the difference between gold (one of the heaviest watch case materials) and titanium (one of the lightest watch case materials) is far greater.

Additionally, Magic Gold has one more unique element: the surface has a sort of worn look that makes it appear almost like bronze, but without a chance of changing is color or forming a green patina.

Of course, if you like the look of titanium and want the lighter case, then that is a better option and will save you close to $15K. The entire case has been micro-blasted with beads resulting in a finish.

Uniquely, both watches feature two power reserve indications, allowing you to monitor the power reserve remaining by day (10 days), or view the warning indicator at 3 o’clock which turns red when there are only 2 days of power reserve remaining.

Another interesting feature is a rack and pinion system visible at 12 o’clock and which is animated when you wind the twin parallel mainspring barrels, which have a 240-hour maximum power reserve.

There are a variety of straps to choose from, and you basically have to use specific Hublot straps. The upside is that each strap uses a quick-release system where you simply push a button and pop the strap off, which is excellent.

Verdict

In conclusion, if you like the Meca-10 look, and can afford it, you have many good options, and even if the titanium or Magic Gold is not to your liking there are also all ceramic versions, blacked out titanium, and King Gold.

That said, the titanium has a really great look and the lowest price of all of them. Although, if you want gold, without the scratches or the weight, and the really cool bronze-ish look, then the Magic Gold is really an excellent choice. Hublot has not sold this alloy to anyone yet, but there is demand from other companies, and they intend to make it in other precious metals as well, perhaps platinum.

The caseback features an unusual engraving: a drawing by 11-year-old Ana Claudia, a Brazilian student involved in a Laureus project called Instituto Reação, on the theme of “Time to Be Healthy”. The drawing was picked out of over 1,000 submissions, and shows a wheel divided into sections with each one representing a sport or the natural world.


Inside is the automatic calibre 35111 with a 42-hour power reserve, which has a Sellita base and has been used in across the Portofino and Ingenieur lines, among others.

The watch is limited to 1,500 pieces, with a part of the proceeds from sales supporting Laureus Sport for Good. The charity contributes to over 100 programmes in 35 countries, tackling key issues including health and education.

This is a true surprise: the iconic and historic Navitimer – now named Navitimer 1, in opposition to the Navitimer 8 – will be available without chronograph. Don’t be fooled though, it is not the first time that the name Navitimer is printed on the dial of a 3-hand watch, however this is not widely known. During the 1950s, the brand introduced the Ref. 66, an elegant dress watch with 3 hands and date – yet, without the legendary design of the Navi.

So, here we are, at Baselworld 2018. Breitling creates a watch that is both totally faithful to the origins of the collection and highly disruptive. For most, the Navitimer is a chronograph. Period. However, seeing the result of a smaller, time-and-date Navitimer 1 is… Interesting and much more pleasant than we could have imagine.

If the chronograph function is out, the rest of the watch remains very close from the original model. Its dial is much cleaner, yet it still features the rotating bezel with aviation rule. The bezel has been redesigned to now show a “beads of rice” bezel, reminiscent of the first generation of Navitimer 806. The case is also much smaller, at 38mm, even if the overall design is faithful to the collection.

The Hublot Big Bang Chrono Perpetual Calendar Replica Watch

Like its predecessors and, actually, every other member of its family, the Big Bang sports the brand’s version of the porthole design (a round bezel with handlebar sides and six hexagonally-positioned screws.) The entire piece is satin-finished in a vertical orientation. This uniform texture is something we’ve seen in recent complicated releases from Hublot, such as its first moophase, released last month. Uniformity in finish adds visual continuity to a piece, and the satin finish here runs from the metal case and lugs through to the ceramic bezel.

The case

The Hublot Big Bang Chrono Perpetual Calendar replica watch is light, given its use of titanium for the case (the model is also avaialble in King Gold, Hublot’s proprietary red gold with 5% platinum content). The case is large like that of all Big Bangs, and measures in at 45 mm across.

The dial

The sapphire-crystal dial gives a view of the open-worked movement inside. Baton-shaped hands and hour markers are coated in Super-LumiNova and a red second hand corresponds to red minute markers around the dial’s circumference. Four sub dials mark the date/leap year at noon. The month and 30-minute chronograph counter are situated at 9 o’clock, while the day and 12-hour chronograph counter is at 6 o’clock. The moonphase, which is accented with a fumed crystal of its own for an opaque look, is at 3.

The complications you see beneath the dial are that of the HUB 1270 UNICO, a Hublot-manufactured movement with a black self-winding rotor made of tungsten. You may remember the UNICO movement from last year’s Baselworld when it served as the base for Hublot’s official World Cup timer. It has a power reserve of 72 hours.

The new Hublot Big Bang Perpetual Calendar Chrono is a release that we’re not surprised to see from a player like Hublot. It is loud and complex, with finish and style that we’ve come to expect from the manufacture. It is bound to be a popular piece among moneyed aficionados of the H-shaped screws out there. Pricing has yet to be released.

First Look The Updated Rolex Deepsea Ref. 126660 Replica Watch

The Rolex Deepsea has always been slightly unique into the Rolex collection. As proper beast with utilitarian roots, it is kind of a hate or love, which clearly makes a statement on the wrist – remember that not only it has a 44mm diameter case but it mainly is an extremely thick watch (around 18mm) and a heavy piece on the wrist. Why? Simply because it is a watch that can withstand a depth of close to 4 kilometers…

The movement

For 2018, the update concerns both the case, the movement and a few minor details on the dial (really minor ones). The idea was clearly not to change the watch and to keep it as close as it was when launched. Yet, the new Rolex Deepsea Ref. 126660 brings a few interesting corrections to make it better on the wrist and up-to-date mechanically.

The case

The first thing to notice is about the case/dial combination. To make the watch visually more balanced and more comfortable on the wrist, the lugs are thinner and the bracelet 1mm larger. The lug width is now 22mm instead of 21mm. This extends up to the clasp, also larger, which in the end allows the Rolex Deepsea Ref. 126660 to be more pleasant on the wrist that its predecessor. The thinner lugs don’t give the watch an elegant feel, but at least the proportions are better than they were before.

The dial

In terms of specifications, the Rolex Deepsea Ref. 126660 is still water resistant to 3,900 meters and still has the Oyster bracelet with Glidelock adjustment and Fliplock dive extension link. No changes either for the available dials: black bezel with black dial or black bezel with gradient D-blue dial (the same as the Cameron-inspired version launched a few years ago). One small detail to note for the dial are the second and minute hand, which are a tiny bit longer to perfectly meet the tracks around the dial.

The main update is invisible but clearly interesting. Following the previous introductions of the brand – new Day-Date, new Datejust, new Sea-Dweller – Rolex gives its maxi-dive watch the new generation of movement, Calibre 3235, with 70h power reserve, improved escapement, gear-train and barrel, as well as antimagnetic properties. Also, the watch is both COSC-certified and internally certified, as a superlative chronometer – with -2 to +2 seconds a day.
