Review Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Co-Axial Master Chronometer Nekton Watch Replica
Last year, Omega and Nekton, a non-profit research foundation headquartered in the United Kingdom, launched a new diving watch, continuing to work to protect our oceans and the Indian Ocean. The new model Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Co-Axial Master Chronometer Nekton watch replica 210.32.42.20.01.002 uses a polished and brushed stainless steel case, equipped with a grade 5 titanium unidirectional rotating diving bezel.
Black Wave Dial
The dial carries over the now-iconic wave motif in a laser-ablated black ceramic (hence the ZrO2 noted on the dial) that is matte finished. The closed caseback features an embossed Nekton submarine medallion with the Seamaster 2 name illustrated on the side. The unidirectional rotating divers’ bezel comes in grade 5 titanium, replacing the LiquidMetal typically found on Omega’s Seamaster 300 models. Its laser-ablated 60-minute diving scale sports silver-colored Arabic numerals in positive relief, along with the traditional triangle-shaped marker at 12 o’clock.
Steel and Titanium
The case of this new Seamaster Diver 300M Nekton replica is made of steel, but it uses titanium for its bezel. Why? I asked and Omega replied that it has to do with the manufacturing process. Using laser ablation for the finish of the bezel will affect the structure of the stainless steel, resulting in discoloring. Also, by changing the structure of the material, it becomes prone to corrosion. By using (grade 5) titanium, there are no issues with discoloring and corrosion. Creating the entire watch of titanium was not according to the plan. It would have a negative effect on the price tag and the 300M Bond edition is already in titanium.
Bracelet and Rubber Strap
There’s little wrong with the 9-row bracelet for this Omega Seamaster Diver 300M replica. But yet, I prefer it on the rubber strap. The rubber strap gives a sportier look and a nice contrast with the steel (and titanium). I feel that this watch on the bracelet is a bit too metallic, for my taste. However, if I am to purchase this new Seamaster Diver 300M Nekton edition, I think I will buy it on a bracelet and add the rubber strap separately. Based on experience, I know it is often more expensive to buy a steel bracelet than to add a separate strap. Just in case I change my mind in the future. When you’re very confident you never want to wear it on the bracelet, it will save you a few hundred for sure.
Caliber 8806 Movement
The replica watch’s caseback features an engraved embossed Nekton submarine medallion, “NAIAD LOCK, DIVER 300 M,” lettering, and the watch’s water-resistance, as a tribute to the partnership.
Beating inside the 42-mm-diameter case is Omega’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer Caliber 8806. The self-winding movement features a free sprung-balance with a silicon balance spring, holds a power reserve of 55 hours, and meets both the COSC chronometer certification standards as well as the METAS standards of magnetic resistance to 15,000 gauss. The movement’s rhodium-plated rotor and bridges feature Geneva waves in arabesque, a familiar decorative finish for Omega calibers.
Helium Valve
The grade 5 titanium bezel goes perfectly with the stainless steel case, there is no noticeable difference in color. Whereas grade 2 titanium, would be much darker. The finish on the case is beautiful, brushed sides and polished facets on the lugs and crown guard. At 10 o’clock, you will find this model’s famous helium valve.
Some people truly dislike the extra crown, but I think it looks cool, even though I will (most probably) never use it. Since it has been used on the Seamaster 300M replica since 1993, I’ve become accustomed to it. I guess it would seem awkward to me now, were there no helium valve at 10 o’clock. Anyway, if you don’t like it, you either need to deal with it or pass on this watch. There’s no other way.

The new Seamaster replica is available in two models, one with an integrated black rubber strap with a polished-and-brushed buckle (pictured above right), or a stainless steel bracelet (pictured above left.)
