2021 Watches & Wonders: Patek Philippe In-line Perpetual Calendar Blue Dial Replica With Low Price
This year, Patek Philippe has two "big things". The first is that Patek Philippe decided to discontinue production of the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711 / 1A-010 watch replica. The second thing is that Patek Philippe has launched a new Patek Philippe In-line Perpetual Calendar replica 5236P-001 for the 2021 Watches & Wonders. Its innovative patented single-row display displays the date, date and month in a row in an elongated hole below 12 o’clock. . This new in-line perpetual calendar features an elegant platinum case with a blue dial.
What is a In-Line Perpetual Calendar Replica?
We can see that on the top of the plate of Patek Philippe's new 5236P replica, the three windows of the week, calendar, and month are connected in a straight line, so it is commonly called "a line of sky." At the same time, experienced players will know that this kind of perpetual calendar with window display is also called "American" perpetual calendar. This is because, for a period in history, Patek Philippe used the United States as its main market. Americans liked this simple and direct window display. In the 1940s and 1960s, almost all of the window-type perpetual calendars produced by Patek Philippe were sold. I went to the United States, so I got the name "American" perpetual calendar.
The general perpetual calendar replica watch is usually in the form of pointers with multiple small dials. For example, the perpetual calendars of Vacheron Constantin and Audemars Piguet are based on the Jaeger-LeCoultre 920 movement and add a perpetual calendar module (Vacheron Constantin and Audemars Piguet, both have the copyright of the 920 movement), so the perpetual calendars of Vacheron Constantin and Audemars Piguet look similar. In terms of technology, the technical level of Patek Philippe In-line Perpetual Calendar 5236P-001 is undoubtedly the highest. This Patek Philippe Grand Complications watch copy is a unique existence among mainstream watches. There is no similar product in the market.
New Movement
A look under the dial of the 31-260 PS QL shows the arrangement of the perpetual calendar disks, as well as the moon-phase, leap year, and day/night indication (a very useful aid to setting a perpetual calendar). As with any craft, when it's done at a high level, it looks easy and, indeed, the organization of the displays and disks seems so logical as to be almost inevitable. However, quite a lot of thoughtful, innovative engineering went into the perpetual calendar works.
The cadrature/under the dial works of the caliber 31-260 PS QL, showing the calendar disks, moon-phase disk, day/night indication (left), and Leap Year indication (right).
The perpetual calendar replica is driven off a classic 12-step cam, in which the depth of each step corresponds to the length of each month, and which rotates once per year. There is also an equally classic four-step cam which rotates once every four years, to control the switching of the date for the month of February. The use of a full linear display adds an additional 118 parts to the movement, over a more conventional perpetual calendar design.
Patek enthusiasts will find the view through the display back somewhat familiar. That's because the new movement is based on the existing 31-260 REG QA, originally launched in 2011 in the Ref. 5235 Annual Calendar Regulator. (Technically, the new movement is a modulear perpetual calendar, although it's so well done you kind of have to throw blanket condemnation of modular construction out the window). Even here, however, there are some visible and notable differences in design and execution (though, of course, the major engineering and watchmaking differences are hidden under the dials of both watches).
One obvious difference is the use of platinum for the microrotor in the new linear perpetual calendar, rather than 22k gold. Patek says part of the reason for using platinum is that it's denser than gold, which makes for slightly greater efficiency (pure platinum is about 11% more dense than pure gold). Another visible difference is that the bridges in the new 31-260 PS QL have been redesigned from the annual calendar version. The inner edges of the bridges for the automatic winding system and mainspring barrel bridge are more elaborate, and there are now separate cocks for the escape wheel and balance wheel. Overall, I think the PS QL version is more satisfying aesthetically, with a stronger connection to classic Swiss full-bridge movement design. The movement also has a system for uncoupling the rotor from the automatic winding system when the mainspring is fully wound, which helps save wear and tear on the winding train.
The entire perpetual calendar mechanism is jeweled throughout (again, in order to reduce friction and save energy, the movement runs in 55 jewels total), and the frequency goes up in the new caliber as well, from 3.2 Hz to 4 Hz (28,800 vph).
Case & Dial
Talking about the watch itself, the Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar replica 5236P is an elegant and modernity designed piece, housed in a 41.3mm 950 platinum case, with 11.07mm height. Sharp and slender, the lugs are paired with a chamfered bezel, resulting in a clean and discreetly contemporary piece. The case is entirely polished, with the case flank featuring a small diamond at 6 o’clock – a classic feature of most platinum Pateks. As for the dial, the in-line perpetual calendar brings a clean layout, where most of the indications are placed at 6 o’clock, with the small second and moonphase subdial flanked by a leap year and day/night indication.
The dial of this replica Perpetual Calendar 5236P is executed in a now-classic dark blue colour with a straight brushed surface, and a black-gradient effect with the periphery of the dial darker than the centre. Time is read thanks to fine and faceted hour markers and baton hands in white gold. A railroad minute track on the periphery brings a slightly technical look. A navy blue alligator strap with a platinum fold-over clasp rounds out the look of this new QP.
