It combines a column wheel with a horizontal clutch, beats at 4Hz and has a 65 hour power reserve. It’s not as flamboyant as chronograph calibres from A. Lange & Sohne or even Montblanc, but it’s still beautiful and finished with aplomb.

The design

The design, while new for Patek Philippe’s chronograph family, will be familiar from 2017’s perpetual calendar reference 5320. The standout features are triple-stepped lugs and syringe (or pipette, if you prefer) hands. These, along with the Arabic numerals, are luminova-filled – something that was also introduced on the 5320.

The dial

Elsewhere, the tachymeter scale has been tweaked slightly, and we have a new shade of blue on the dial, accompanied by a blue calfskin strap with contrast stitching. Something you won’t notice from these pictures is that the watch also has a distinct “glassbox” sapphire crystal that sits up proud of the bezel.

The movement

Available in titanium, King Gold, and a special polymer matrix composite called 3-D carbon, the Ferrari GT is 45mm wide and uses Hublot's in-house UNICO HUB1280 flyback chronograph movement.

On wrist, it sits low, feels great, and looks even better. The chronograph action is lovely and the titanium has a muted look and a lightweight presence that is really only challenged by the more hardcore look of the 3-D Carbon model. A major departure from the standard design language of the Classic Fusion, only 2,000 examples will be produced, including 1,000 pieces of the $22,000 titanium model and 500 each of the $27,300 3-D Carbon and $38,800 King Gold versions.

While it feels out of character to be praising one of Hublot's Ferrari watches, I shouldn't be all that surprised that the team behind the incredible SP2 could manage to make a great looking Ferrari-inspired watch.

The case

Thanks largely to the convex saucer-like case profile, the Hublot Classic Fusion Ferrari GT replica watch wears much smaller than the sizing would suggest, with hooded lugs and an oversized screw down crown accenting smooth and flowing case edge.
