Last year, Rolex introduced the Rolex Submariner 41mm black watch replica 124060 - a 41 mm watch with an improved case shape, thinner lugs, a slightly different bracelet construction and a new interior, while making the biggest and most inconspicuous change move to the Sub.

The Case

The Rolex Submariner black watch replica 124060 looks damn near identical to its predecessor. In fact, the changes to the case actually make the watch appear slimmer. The old maxi case (so named for its boxy, squared-off profile) is gone. The lugs have been slimmed down as a result of the slight increase in case size. Other than the size, the case looks like it always has. We have the same 904L steel holding it all together, the solid caseback, the crown guards, the signed crown, and the combination of both brushed and polished surfaces.

The Bezel and Dial

The overall styling of the new Rolex Submariner replica is (noticing a pattern here?) the same. That satisfyingly clicky uni-directional bezel still features the black ceramic insert and luminous pearl. Each of the numerals on the bezel is recessed and platinum filled for both durability and legibility. I'm sure there are a few people out there who would like to have seen a lumed bezel – but again, this is a Submariner. Changes are incremental, so let's not get carried away.

In recent years, the indicator of choice has been a small coronet between the words Swiss and Made. In previous iterations of the Submariner, the Swiss Made moniker was separated by a small hash mark. Other than that, changes are minuscule if not totally non-existent (especially on wrist). The dial is the same deep gloss black with maxi (read, large) markers in stark white with white-gold surrounds. To put it simply, this is the dial you expect to see on a Submariner.

The Movement

Internally is where the watch has its biggest improvement, thanks to the new Rolex in-house caliber 3230 movement – effectively the no-date version of the existing 3235. It features two patented Rolex creations: The Parachrom Blue balance spring and the Chronergy Escapement, working in tandem to ensure improved accuracy and performance.

Rolex introduced the in-house caliber 3235 in 2015, but took until 2020 to unveil the 3230 and insert it in both the new replica Rolex Submariner (no-date) as well as the 36 and 41mm Oyster Perpetual models. Lange’s outsize date is prominently displayed at 12 o’clock. The month and leap-year indication appear in intersecting subdials.

The Movement

The new A. Lange & Söhne Langematik Perpetual replica models use the same calibre (the L922.1, based on the Sax-O-Mat movement) that powered the first 2001 model. Lange’s patented zero-reset mechanism means that when the crown is pulled, the movement stops, and the seconds hand jumps to zero. This allows the minute hand to be precisely aligned with the respective minute marker, and the watch can be simply and accurately synchronised. With its diameter of 30.4mm and thin height of 5.7mm, the in-house movement is distinguished by its bidirectional winding three-quarter rotor to generate the 46-hour power reserve. Using the relatively familiar case design and configuration (through the Vintage series chronograph style in the basic BR V2-94 design), the new Bell & Ross BR V2-94 Full Lum 41mm green dial watch replica still presents a novel appearance with its contrasting super luminous.

Luminous Characteristics

Soon after its discovery in 1898, radium found its way on the dial of a watch. In 1903, a certain George F. Kunz painted the hands of his watch with this newly-discovered material, using the radioluminescence properties to read the time in the dark – he even patented this. From the earliest days of the wristwatch to the 1960s, most watches with luminous hands and markers will be executed with radium paint, which will be banned in 1963 due to the dangerousness of this material – look at “Radium Girls” to have an idea. The 41 MM Case

The Green Dial

In daylight conditions, the dial of Bell & Ross BR V2-94 replica is quite surprising, as it shows colours that are not familiar at first sight. The surface is matte and has different hues to display, all in the pale yellow and pale green range. The real draw of any fully lumed dial is going to be the effect you get in a dark room, and based on the supplied images from Bell & Ross, the V2-94 delivers. Most of the dial lights up in a bright fluorescent green, but the 9:00 sundial glows blue. It’s an undeniably cool effect, and if you don’t already have a good UV flashlight for lighting up your watches while you’re toiling away at your desk throughout the workday (I know I’m not the only one), the lume treatment here absolutely necessitates one. 

The Caliber BR-CAL.301

As for its movement, Bell & Ross replica stuck with the standard BR-CAL.301 they have used to great effect in the series (the caliber is based upon the ETA 2894-2 and provides 42-hours of power reserve).
